In 1832, Horace Church purchased a 200-acre parcel of land and built a typical
New England-frame farmhouse. The house was later enlarged to include a Dutch
Colonial wing to accommodate the family of the second owners. It is the house,
which appears as "Crippen Farm" on the Great Barrington map dated to 1876. The
land was eventually whittled down to 4 acres of which the now Seekonk Pines Inn
stands.
In 1978 the Best family converted the home to a Bed & Breakfast. The Inn was
named after a local Indian word meaning "wild goose" of which the small glacial
valley in which they were now living was once called the "place of the Seekonk".
The Lefkowitz family moved from New Jersey to purchase the inn, in 1996.
In addition to making some structural and decorating changes, we continue to welcome
many satisfied guests.
The rooms at the Seekonk Pines are lovingly decorated with
antiques and collectables. The building has a fabulous wrap around porch decorated
with wicker furniture and rocking chairs. The grounds offer a full sized in-ground
pool, beautiful gardens, and picnic tables. Guests may either bring their own bikes
or borrow one of the Inn's bikes, to enjoy the lovely backroads. The Inn's four
acres are surrounded by 325 acres of neighboring estate, which welcomes hikers and
cross-country skiers.
